Wideo Wednesday: Sir Peter Ustinov

The actor and raconteur Peter Ustinov was born today in 1921 (a fact I was reminded of by TMC). I have several books by him (see elsewhere on this blog). The first link here has a talk he gave: this has the story I hold responsible for Kameron's interest in accents, dialects, and languages, of a Dutch art historian in an English manor house. The rest are bits from his various roles over the years. He played William the Fourth in his youth in Beau Brummel, then again many years later in Victoria as the elderly William the Fourth. He spent time in Ancient Rome in both Spartacus and Quo Vadis. This association with antiquity, royalty, and madness allowed him to 'tear a cat' in the part of King Herod in Jesus of Nazareth (1977). Probably the place we first became aware of him was as Prince John in Disney's Robin Hood.

He was also well known for his portrayal of Hercule Poirot in several movies and on TV. Ustinov died in March of 2004 at the age of 82.
