St. Carlo Acutis (3
May 1991 – 12 October 2006) was an Italian computer programmer known for his
devotion to the Eucharist and his use of digital media to
promote Catholic devotion. Born in London and
raised in Milan,
he developed an early interest in computers and video games, teaching himself
programming and web design and assisting his parish and school with digital
projects. On September 7, 2025 [that’s today, folks], together with Saint Pier Giorgio Frassati, he was canonized by
the Catholic Church.
Active in parish life, he
served as a catechist and helped inspire several people to convert to
Catholicism. He later created a website documenting Eucharistic miracles and Marian
apparitions. He was diagnosed with acute promyelocytic leukaemia and
died at the age of fifteen. Since his death, his relics have been displayed
in Assisi and
his exhibitions on Eucharistic miracles have traveled worldwide.
In 2020, he was beatified by
the Catholic Church after the recognition of a
2013 miracle in
Brazil attributed to his intercession, with a second miracle in Costa Rica
confirmed in 2024. Acutis is regarded as a model for young believers and
was canonized as a saint on 7 September 2025, alongside
Saint Pier Giorgio Frassati. Acutis is referred to
as the "Patron Saint of the Internet", "God's Influencer"
and the "first millennial saint".
He enjoyed simple pleasures
such as Nutella and
even wanted to become a professional chef. He played football with friends, and
enjoyed video games, and pop culture, including The
Simpsons. He loved spending time with animals, especially dogs. He
taught himself how to play the saxophone.
Acutis showed an interest in
the lives of saints, especially Francis
of Assisi, Antony of Padua, Francisco and Jacinta Marto, Dominic
Savio, Tarcisius, Bernadette Soubirous, and Mary Magdalene de' Pazzi.] He
is said to have prayed to his guardian angel frequently and exhibited a
special devotion to St. Michael the Archangel. He had a
devotion to Mary, mother of Jesus.
Acutis worked on computers
and played video games. He played games from series such as Halo, Mario,
and Pokémon, although
his mother claims he limited himself to just one hour of gaming per week to
avoid addiction. People around Acutis
considered him a "computer geek" due to his passion for and skill
with computers and the internet. He was skilled in Java as well as C++ and often
helped others with technical issues.
Due to his enjoyment of
video games in life, Acutis has been described as the "first gamer saint". A
website was created for his canonization cause. Others were created for
educators, young people, and prayer groups, and for each of the four
exhibitions that he inspired.
The life of Carlo Acutis has
inspired multiple media adaptations, including a comic book, a video game, a
documentary film, an animated film, and a brickfilm. –

I forebear to list all his virtuous
works during his lifetime (including charity, reverence, and service) and the
posthumous miracles attributed to his intercession after his death which led to
his canonization.
