They Were Busy Little Elves

Even if you take the holiday specials out of the equation, the productions of the Arthur Rankin, Jr., and Jules Bass studio were still a significant factor in my childhood. I have the vaguest memories of their King Kong show (besides a coloring book with a velveted cover), and that goes back to when I was just developing memories. I recall in first grade enjoying the Reluctant Dragon and Mr. Toad show (foolishly represented by the Disny animation here). Their 'movies' (not series as claimed here) like The Red Baron and Mad Monster Party were also favorites. Never cared much for the Jackson Five or Osmond shows; in fact I can't remember if they ever ran in our area. Then of course their fantasy specials from The Hobbit to The Flight of Dragons took me through and out middle and high school. This little show, though riddled with errors, makes an interesting look at what they did over the years. I should see if I can get a good DVD of their Family Classics.
