"We may be rushing things, but we can hardly wait ..." There are famous, constantly replayed Christmas specials, then ... there are these. This is just a sampling of such shows. Whether unjustly obscure or rightly resigned to the storage closet of history, I watched these when they first came out and they remind me of the old Christmas atmosphere of the time. During the Seventies (a very 'rancid' period, to appropriate Harold Bloom's not too techical cultural term) there was a particularly anti-sentimental reaction to life, and Christmas had to work very hard to reassert itself on what was perceived as a garbage dump of culture. It was only in the Eighties that it really did so, and there was again a flourishing of the lush and plush.
