Tolkien Coming Soon!

Publishing Date: March 30, 2023

“Leading Tolkien scholar, Peter Grybauskas, presents for the very first time J.R.R. Tolkien’s own prose translation of The Battle of Maldon together with the definitive treatment of The Homecoming of Beorhtnoth and its accompanying essays; also included and never before published is Tolkien’s bravura lecture, ‘The Tradition of Versification in Old English’, a wide-ranging essay on the nature of poetic tradition. Illuminated with insightful notes and commentary, he has produced a definitive critical edition of these works.” - https://www.tolkiensociety.org/2022/12/new-tolkien-book-the-battle-of-maldon-to-be-published/

I read The Homecoming of Beortnoth and 'its accompanying essays' all the way back in Middle School, in The Tolkien Reader. As the article notes, however, it has never been republished in its own 'standalone' volume.  Apparently Grybauskas makes the argument that, after Beowulf, Maldon is the most influential Anglo-Saxon text on Middle-earth. While that connection might be true and necessary for the wider appeal of the volume, I think that for admirers of Tolkien's scholarship it will be of interest enough.
