Vampire Hunter D (movie
1985, DVD release 2000, 1 hour and twenty minutes)
D, a haunted half-human,
half-vampire warrior, wanders the countryside of a feudalistic future, hunting
his own kind while battling his own evil nature. Like a rogue samurai, the
silent, solitary hero wanders into a small hamlet terrorized by the all-powerful
Count, a monstrous vampire lord, and his demonic minions from a castle that
casts a long shadow over the countryside. The Count has claimed the human Doris
(who wields a mean cutlass herself) as his bride. D becomes her protector
and--when she's captured by the Count's shape-shifting minions--her savior. - Amazon
Hellsing (Volumes 1 -4)
(airdate 2001-2002)
Hellsing is
named after and centered around the Royal Order of Protestant Knights
originally led by Abraham Van Helsing. The mission of Hellsing is
to search for and destroy the undead and other supernatural forces of evil that
threaten the queen and the country. This organization is currently led by Sir
Integra Fairbrook Wingates Hellsing, who inherited the leadership of Hellsing
as a child after the death of her father. She witnessed his death which turned
her from a once innocent and shy little girl to a tough and deadly force. She
is protected by the faithful Hellsing family butler Walter C. Dornez, a deadly
foe in his own right, and Alucard, the original and most powerful vampire,
who swore loyalty to the Hellsing family after being defeated by Van Helsing
one hundred years before the story takes place. These formidable guardians are
joined early on in the storyline by former police officer Seras Victoria, whom
Alucard turned into a vampire. – Wikipedia
Researching images for my
vampire post, I discovered that I had not chronicled my copy of Vampire
Hunter D, not in any meaningful or searchable way. I was also reminded that
I used to have four DVDs of the Hellsing animated series (the full
series, if I’m remembering correctly) bought at our local Blockbuster going-out-of-business
sale (on spec, as it were) and sold in my desperate visit to Dragon’s Loot.
I had never got into it very much.
