I remember that particularly
in the early 1980’s I was always making up lists of, say, 20 essential books to
take if exiled on a deserted island or going into space. The idea of how many
digital books you could take had never even entered my imagination. Today the
fancy came to me of which 20 I would select today if I were to, say, dump them
on my past self (I’m always thinking about that guy. He never thought about
me!). I would restrict myself to books I had today. It is a bit of a cheat as
many volumes contain multiple books (for a total of 41), but hey, it’s my list,
my rules.
