In the early 80's I was trying to cobble together a sort of philosophy, an attitude towards life that asserted the value of Romance (both in its Fantastic sense as well as its Love sense) in the face of so-called Hard Materialism. I could see that Fantasy was even harder than Realism, and that it suffered more. There happened to be a perfect storm of films on the air at the time, and they all adressed and fed this philosophy. While I can see some limits to the idea (you don't go jumping from the rooftops in a cape and hope to fly) The Logical Song by Supertramp might well be the anthem for the struggle against mechanical conformity.

You could probably put Cyrano de Bergerac and The Adventures of Baron Munchausen and The Madwoman of Challiot in that list, too.
