For many years, if I ever
wanted to point to anything to explain what the imaginary race of the Morgs
should look like, I would present this ca.1980 crude D&D-ish drawing of
Roth, a character who has come to be the hero of several short stories here on
the Niche, as the best example I had. Lately my brother John had been
sampling around with what AI can do, and he came up with the concept of
plugging that drawing into a program, describing some parameters, and seeing
what sort of art could be produced. This is the best result the program has
been able to generate so far. I am astonished and gratified.
If I ever was to put
together that Tales of the Morgs anthology I’ve been dreaming about,
this or something like this could very well be the cover. I’ve always dreamed
of having some pictures of Morgs done by the Brothers Hildebrandt and something
‘in their style’ was one of the factors that John specified in his
instructions. There are still a few factors that need tweaking: the helmet
might be a little too kingly and the muzzle not as pronounced and protruding as
it should be, but I can see where such elements stem from my drawing. I love it
and cannot stop contemplating it. It is so much better than my own previous AI
efforts.
