An interesting aspect of these Gold Key Digests were the back covers, usually taken up by advertising. Here are a few familiar examples; the groovy patches were used on the Gold Key horror digests, like Ripley's Believe It or Not or Boris Karloff Presents.
To my knowledge, Mom never sent money or checks through the mail for any offers, no matter how cheap. Box-top offers were a whole other thing; no money was risked except for the price of a stamp.
