Why Do Clocks Run Clockwise? and other Imponderables by David Feldman
I had completely forgotten about this book until I went looking for a quote from Clockwise, a film by John Cleese. I think I had a copy of this early in my college days, but it was so long ago my memory is a little fuzzy. But it is just the sort of volume of 'snappy bits' and odd facts that attracted me in my 'Mr. Smarty Pants' phase (which is still ongoing, but the symptoms are greatly reduced). Subsumed after a while by The Straight Dope books.
