Although this 'metallic' arrangement makes it sound like a Viking war-chant (not a bad thing, in my book), the song itself was written by Sabine Baring-Gould (see elsewhere in this blog) as 'a processional hymn for children walking from Horbury Bridge (where Baring-Gould was curate) to Horbury St. Peter's Church near Wakefield, Yorkshire, at Whitsuntide in 1865.' I like this version better than the more familiar, traditional arrangement used as the favorite hymn of the Salvation Army.
