This perilous picture has fascinated me since Fourth Grade. From Stories of King Arthur by Blanche Winder. Merlin's father, 'an old grey fairy man,' carries off Merlin's mother. Found strange echoes for me in the 1972 Gargoyles. The original line drawing:
