Action Figures to Be Noted: ... and Monsters

I like how the accessories for the Universal Dracula (1931) includes the infamous. almost inexplicable armadillo as well as a spider and a possum (supposed to suggest a big rat, I've heard). Fauna not very familiar at the time to audiences outside the American South, perhaps. And now I see that there's another armadillo, too, on the table from Texas Chainsaw Massacre. We have Peter Cushing as Van Helsing and Vincent Price as ... well, Vincent Price in general, with a raven, a black cat, a skull (screaming?), records, and his famous cookbook.

These are the kind of small accessories that truly fascinate me, bits and pieces that some might consider 'dollhouse stuff'. Eighteen wands from 'Harry Potter' (including two broken ones from Voldemort); keys, a pocket watch, and a hammer from ST:TNG; horns from Narnia and Middle-earth; holy water, aspirin, and Dr. Flimflam's Miracle Cream; weird tools from Ichabod Crane's bag; a Blair Witch symbol, a cross from Ozzy Osborne (where is that figure?), and The Ten Commandments. Magnifying glasses, paint brushes, spoons, flowers, feather pens, spectacles, necklaces, a unicorn horn, a snap-case purse, a witch-headed Pez dispenser, and a banana. And so on. Some of these things you have to embiggen to get all the details.

To Slay From a Distance

 

As far as action figure weapons go, I've never been much of a bow-and-arrows fan (too easily breakable, too hard to pose) or a gun aficionado. While a gun's effect is easy to imagine (pew! pew!) there is something more real about hitting the bad guy with a sword or ax. Such 'missile' accessories as these seem more for 'display' than for 'play'. I have tons more phasers in the 'science box' (wherever that's got to), including some of the old MEGO pistols. I am not, however, about to line up all the arrows, although some quivers are displayed. If I were to include all the LOTR weapons (and it may yet come to that) there would certainly be a lot more bows and arrows.
