"Hasbro released
a line of toys based on "The Nightmare Before Christmas" in
the Fall of 1993. While the movie was moderately successful, the toys sold
poorly. Most stores received only a few shipments before clearing the toys out.
Toy collectors discovered them soon after they disappeared from store shelves
and they became a hot item on the collector market. All of the figures included
a colorful tombstone base with their name on it along with movie accurate
accessories and a unique action feature." - The Nightmare Before Christmas Wiki.
I think this series is in some way a family legacy; I don't remember buying them all myself. We luckily got ours at the time before they became rare. For a while, before companies like McFarlane started making their own offerings in the franchise, these would have commanded quite amazing prices, especially among the rising Goth culture. Their paint is a little flaky and tacky on the rubber parts at this late date (the Boogie Boys in particular look pretty frightening under their masks), but we still have all the accoutrements and bases.
