Gimli x NineUpdate 9/20/23: Two More Gimlis (Including Coronation Gimli, His Only Real Variant)
Dwarven Horde
I
have always loved the Dwarves, ever since I read The Hobbit back in the
day. I was grossly disappointed when Bridge Direct did not produce the promised
entire thirteen members of Thorin’s Company. You can still see pictures of
prototypes here and there on the internet, both 6” and 3 ¾” scale.
The
first picture has nine Gimlis in all. There is not much variation in sculpt,
though some have ‘axe-throwing’ action. These little mechanics are not very
useful, and generally amount to some easily breakable feature that leaves the
figure in a rather goofy position. Besides the extras Kenny sent to me, some
packages that paired two or more figures account for the number of Gimlis
altogether.
The second picture gathers
Dwarf action figures from several different franchises. Besides the Bridge
Direct Thorin (and the smaller scale Thorin, Balin, Dwalin, Fili, and Kili),
there are two Gimlis from Toy Vault in the back, Draven von Drekill from
Shadowrun, three dwarves from Narnia including the tiny red-bearded Trumpkin,
and one strange off-brand dwarf in black and gold that I have no idea where it
comes from. That dwarf in blue with a white beard is a Gimli repaint. I also
have a ‘giant’ dwarf (compared to the scale of these) named Thargas Anvilmar
(World of Warcraft), which I will come to in time.
There
is an entire run of Dwarves from Mythic Legions (Four Horsemen Studios) that I
crave, and a new Deluxe Elkhorn from Dungeons and Dragons (Wizards of the
Coast).
