The Tower at Stony Wood (Softcover); Alphabet of Thorn
(Softcover); In the Forest of Serre (Hardback); Ombria in Shadow (Hardback);
The Bards of Bone Plain (Hardback); The Bell at Sealy Head (Hardback); Od Magic
(Hardback); Solstice Wood (Hardback); Harrowing the Dragon (Hardback), by
Patricia K. McKillip. (9 Books)
I am going to take these books all in a lump, and that for a
reason. All have jewel-like covers by Kinuko Y. Craft (except for Solstice
Wood). ‘Harrowing the Dragon’ is twenty-five years of short stories. The others
are novels where 1) a powerful man causes complications, 2) a simple girl with
unguessed resources discovers her strength, and 3) great problems in a kingdom
are straightened out by fixing personal problems among the characters. There
are of course some variations, and it is all well done (they are all good reads
with great scenery and side roads) but that’s basically the set up. She has
other books I would still like to get and read (Wonders of the Invisible World,
Kingfisher, Dreams of Distant Shores) but there are other things I would want
to get first. A while ago I almost sold them off.
Ranking: Keepers. For now.
File Code: Fantasy. Novels. One Short Story Collection.
